Myoskeletal Alignment – Postural Resisted Movement Therapy
Myoskeletal Alignment Techniques (MAT) treat stubborn pain conditions by mobilizing joints through muscle manipulation. The body’s myofascial and skeletal systems are intimately connected, what affects the muscles and fascia, affects skeletal alignment.
Postural distortion creates restricted motion and pain in local and distant areas. Myoskeletal Alignment realigns posture through resisted stretching techniques that lengthen shortened muscles, free joint capsules, and restore natural, balanced movement to joints and vertebrae.
What’s a Myoskeletal Alignment Session Like?
Myoskeletal Alignment Technique (MAT) begins with a thorough postural analysis to determine where your imbalances lie. I will assess available joint movement of hips, sacroiliac, and other structures while you are lying on the table to more accurately pinpoint your particular restrictions.
Myoskeletal Alignment sessions take place on the massage table with the client clothed in shorts and bra top. This is an active, client-participation therapy where resisted stretching is used to mobilize joints. This means I will be stretching your muscles while you, the client, resist the stretch by actively contracting the stretched muscle. Additionally, you will be asked to move the joints while pressure is applied via elbows, palms, and knuckles.
After your session we will re-evaluate your posture to determine what changes have taken place and where we will focus your session. Depending on your condition it may take several sessions to affect therapeutic postural change.
